Stabilized Maple Burl
w/Rhodium Accents

Material: Stabilized Spalted Maple Burl with Yellow Dye
Origins: North America
Description: The "spalt" is the black lines in the maple caused by a fungus that infects the growing tree causing the black lines to form. This wood is typically very soft, so it is stabilized by placing it under a significant negative pressure and removing the water content. A resin is then added to make the wood hard. A color can also be added to the resin, in this case yellow, to color the naturally light wood. Typically this wood is full of checks and voids, which add to its beauty. Finished in Rhodium plating (In the Platinum Family of metals) Pewter Stand Included

is made by fusing sheets of colored hardwood veneers with resins, and placing it under extreme pressures to form a solid and
very colorful turning blank. This makes for a very dense material for its size.
