Rollerball

Please Click HERE for my Shipping Policy

Rollerball Pens use a thin liquid, water-based ink. This tends to dry slower, and will saturate or "bleed" into the paper more so than ballpoint ink. The ink takes several seconds to dry, which increases the risk of smudging, but leaves a very dark, distinct line. Since the ink is liquid, rollerballs require very little downward force and have a smoother, more fluid feel when writing. The ink actually forms a small puddle when applied to the paper, which is then pushed or pulled across the page by the ball tip. Rollerball ink is prone to drying out, so it is typically found in pens with caps that prevent this.

Amboyna Burl

Picture

Finish: Gun Metal
Material:  Amboyna Burl
Origins:
Ink Refill: Rollerball Style
Description:  Pterocarpus Indicus Amboyna may also be called: Kiabooca or Angsana. Originally emanating from the Island of Amboyna, it is also from Borneo and other South East Asian countries. The name Kiabooca means twisted wood which refers to the burls that are produced. Once available in quantity in the Empire period from 1804 through 1815. Used primarily for furniture. Amboyna has become a rarity that is very scarce and is even difficult to obtain in veneer form in America. The wood is dense and course making it difficult to work and finish. Despite the shortcomings of the workability of this species it turns satisfactorily and takes a nice high polish. Amboyna is The World’s most popular and sought after burl thus leading to a short supply.

Turquoise Box Elder

Picture
Picture
Finish: Chrome with Satin Chrome Cap
Material: Stabilized and Dyed Box Elder Burl
Origins: North America
Ink Refill: Rollerball Style
Description: Much like the Buckeye Burl next door, this wood is also typically very soft, so it is stabilized by placing it under a significant negative pressure and removing the water content. A resin is then added to make the wood hard. A color can also be added to the resin, in this case turquoise, to color the naturally light wood. The grain pattern in the wood is caused by natural compression of the trunk or branch as it moves in the wind. This causes different densities in the wood producing a stunning pattern.
